Well I guess this is a new series which includes quick tips about random, most likely beauty, things I’ve picked up over the years that I thought would be selfish not to share.
This first episode in this series is for those who, like me, have stick straight, down pointing lashes that can not live without an eye lash curler and a good mascara that can hold a curl. Generally speaking I guess it’s us Asians that are unlucky in the lash department.
So, let’s begin.
How many times have you bought a mascara and excitedly tried it on only for it to make your curled lashes droop and look nasty? *raises arms* Well I don’t have a trick that will magically make our lashes be friends with wet mascaras but here is a tip that I always…use, I guess, when out mascara shopping.
The first ingredient of the mascara must not be aqua/water.
The ingredient with the most amount in the product is listed first, so, water being the first listed instantly means it’s a no-no for us as it will weigh down lashes therefore undoing the curl we’ve perfected.
Here’s an example of what I mean:
The photo on the left is a blurry mess that I captured of the L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara packaging. The first ingredient listed? Isododecane. Followed by Cera Alba/Beeswax, Carnauba/Carnauba Wax, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Aqua/Water (!) and the list goes on and on and on.
My point is, water isn’t near the top so this mascara works!
Anyway people automatically think that waterproof mascara will hold a curl but it isn’t always the case, cue Covergirl Lash Blast Fusion Waterproof Mascara. I bought that mascara on sale many months ago and tried it, under the impression that because it was waterproof it would hold a mascara but alas, I was wrong. The first ingredient listed on the packaging was water! I was happy I bought it on sale so I didn’t have to pay full price but I think that was when I realised the importance of reading the ingredients list.
So my quick tip: favour mascaras that don’t have water as the first ingredient if you want a curl to hold.
Let me know if you have any tips for straight lashes!
